10 Ways to Avoid Problems at Tax Time

  1. Ask questions – especially when you do not understand something.
  2. File as early as possible to avoid potential identity theft.
  3. Organize your tax records.
  4. If you are going to experience changes in income and/or filing status, let us know so we can tell you how it will affect your taxes.
  5. Call if you are expecting a pension or IRA distribution – it may be the most expensive money you will ever spend!!
  6. Pay your estimates on time.
  7. Have your refund deposited directly into your bank account.
  8. Do not panic if you cannot pay your balance due – we can help you set up a payment plan (you can also pay your taxes with a credit card).
  9. Request an extension of time to file, but still pay your taxes on time.
